I’ve spent considerable time testing the RG40XX H to find out.

The RG40XX H boasts an impressive array of features. Beyond the sheer number of pre-loaded games, which span various classic consoles, the inclusion of a Linux operating system opens up a world of possibilities. Adding emulators and additional ROMs is relatively straightforward for those comfortable with the process. The 5G WiFi is surprisingly fast and reliable, even in areas with less-than-ideal signal strength. Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity paired seamlessly with my headphones and external controller. The HDMI output is a nice touch, allowing for big-screen gaming sessions. The build quality feels surprisingly solid, with a tempered glass screen providing good protection against scratches.

The RG40XX H’s performance is generally solid. The quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor, while not cutting edge, handled the vast majority of the pre-loaded games with ease. There were occasional minor instances of slowdown in more demanding titles, but nothing that significantly impacted the overall gaming experience. The 4.0-inch IPS screen is a highlight, providing vibrant colors and crisp visuals. The battery life, while not quite reaching the advertised 6 hours under heavy use, still managed a respectable 4-5 hours, which is ample for most gaming sessions. The response time of the buttons and D-pad is excellent and adds to the responsive feel. Fast charging via USB-C was also appreciated.
