Performance
In my tests, the Rock Card Readers performed admirably. Transfer speeds were consistently fast, significantly faster than other non-MFi certified options I’ve used. Transferring a 4K video file (approximately 4GB) took under two minutes, which is impressively quick. I also tested transferring multiple large RAW photo files and had similar positive results, with no noticeable lag or data corruption. The reader proved stable throughout my testing, never experiencing a single instance of unexpected disconnection or data loss. The device was also easily recognized by my iPhone and iPad and operated intuitively without requiring any complex configuration or extra software installation. The reader effectively handles both JPEGs and RAW photo formats, as well as numerous 4K video formats.
However, I did notice a slight reduction in transfer speed when using cards with a very high capacity (256GB). While still fast, it wasn’t as blisteringly quick as the performance with smaller cards. This might be attributable to the card itself and not necessarily a limitation of the reader.
Pros & Cons
- Pros: Fast transfer speeds, MFi certified, wide compatibility, stable performance, two-way transfer capability, easy to use.
- Cons: Slightly slower transfer speeds with very high-capacity microSD cards.
Final Verdict
Overall, the Rock Card Readers Apple MFi Certified Lightning to Micro SD Card Reader delivers on its promise of fast and reliable file transfer. The speed, ease of use, and stability make it a worthwhile accessory for anyone who frequently transfers files between their Apple devices and microSD cards. While the transfer speed reduction on high-capacity cards is worth noting, it doesn’t significantly detract from the overall positive experience. I would confidently recommend this product to anyone needing a reliable and efficient solution for transferring files to and from their iOS device.
