Batman: Arkham Trilogy – Nintendo Switch (B0CB6VNHRB) Review
The Batman: Arkham Trilogy on Nintendo Switch – a portable powerhouse of superhero action. This review dives into my experience playing through all three titles: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight, on the hybrid console. Having spent considerable time battling Gotham’s criminal underworld on the go, I’m ready to share my thoughts on this impressive port.
The inclusion of all three Arkham games in one package is a major selling point. Each game brings its unique strengths to the table. Arkham Asylum’s claustrophobic atmosphere and focused gameplay, Arkham City’s expansive open world, and Arkham Knight’s thrilling vehicular combat and broadened narrative all feel remarkably well-integrated. The Switch version includes all DLC, enhancing the overall value proposition.
The port itself handles surprisingly well, given the power limitations of the Nintendo Switch compared to its initial platforms. The control scheme has been adapted smoothly, making the experience intuitive and comfortable, both docked and handheld. The touchscreen functionality is minimally implemented but works effectively for certain in-game menus.
Graphically, the Arkham Trilogy on Switch isn’t going to blow you away. Expect a noticeable downgrade from the original versions, but the developers have done a commendable job of maintaining a consistent frame rate. While there’s some noticeable texture pop-in and reduced visual fidelity in certain areas, the overall impact on gameplay is minimal. The game runs surprisingly well in handheld mode, a huge plus for a title of this scale. Docked mode provides a slightly enhanced visual experience, but the difference is not drastic.
Load times are a bit longer than on more powerful consoles, something to keep in mind, especially during transitions between areas in Arkham City and Arkham Knight’s larger environments. However, these loading screens are rarely egregious and don’t severely impact the overall flow of gameplay.
Pros:
- Portability – Play the Arkham Trilogy anywhere.
- Complete package – All three games plus DLC.
- Surprisingly good performance on the Switch.
- Well-adapted controls.
Cons:
- Reduced visual fidelity compared to other versions.
- Longer load times than other platforms.
- Occasional texture pop-in.
The Batman: Arkham Trilogy on Nintendo Switch is a testament to successful porting. While compromises have been made graphically, the core gameplay experience remains largely intact, and the ability to enjoy these critically acclaimed titles on a portable console is a compelling proposition. If you haven’t played the Arkham games before, or you want to experience them on the go, this is a fantastic option. The minor performance drawbacks are easily outweighed by the convenience and overall quality of the Switch version. I highly recommend it.
