Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy (Intl Version) – ABNS0003 Nintendo Switch Review
The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy has finally arrived on the Nintendo Switch, bringing the remastered adventures of Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped to a new generation of players. Having spent considerable time spinning, jumping, and generally causing mayhem across all three games, I’m ready to share my thoughts on this portable trip down memory lane.
The N. Sane Trilogy faithfully recreates the classic Crash Bandicoot experience, but with a stunning visual overhaul. The vibrant, updated graphics bring the colorful worlds of the original games to life in a way that’s both nostalgic and fresh. While the core gameplay remains largely untouched—it’s still that challenging, rewarding platforming—minor quality-of-life improvements have been added. The updated controls feel smooth and responsive, though some may prefer to use the Joy-Con controllers over the Pro Controller. The inclusion of all three games in one package is a fantastic value proposition, offering a huge amount of content for the price.
The Nintendo Switch version performs admirably. While there are occasional minor frame rate dips during particularly busy sections, these are largely inconsequential and don’t detract from the overall experience. The portability factor is a huge win. Being able to play Crash Bandicoot on the go is a treat for fans, allowing for continued enjoyment on commutes or travel. The game looks and runs exceptionally well, whether playing docked or in handheld mode.
The sound design remains excellent, showcasing classic sounds alongside improved audio quality for a modern take on the original soundtrack. The music is energetic and memorable, making the already engaging gameplay even more enjoyable.
Pros & Cons
- Pros: Stunning visuals, portable gameplay, faithful recreation of classic titles, massive amount of content, improved controls.
- Cons: Occasional minor frame rate drops, may require some adaptation to the controls for certain players.
The Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy on Nintendo Switch is a triumph. It delivers a fantastic remastered experience that’s both true to its roots and modernized for a new audience. The ability to play these classic games on the go makes it an even more appealing package. While there are minor performance hiccups, they are easily overshadowed by the overall quality of the game. For fans of classic platformers or those new to the series, this collection is a must-have.
