Cricket 24 (Spidecric24) Nintendo Switch Review

For months I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Cricket 24 for Nintendo Switch, particularly given my love for the Ashes and the promise of a truly immersive cricket experience. After countless hours spent bowling, batting, and fielding, I’m ready to share my comprehensive review of this latest cricket sim from Nacon. Does it live up to the hype? Let’s find out.

Cricket 24 boasts an impressive array of features. The inclusion of The Ashes is a major draw, and the detailed cutscenes genuinely enhance the sense of immersion. The photogrammetry players look fantastic, bringing a level of realism previously unseen in handheld cricket games. The sheer number of included players, teams (including Australia, England, West Indies, New Zealand and Ireland), tournaments (The Ashes, KFC BBL, Weber WBBL, The Hundred, Caribbean Premier League, and more), and stadiums is staggering. The career mode, allowing you to develop your own cricketer from humble beginnings to international stardom, is a particularly engaging aspect. The revamped fielding system is noticeably improved, offering a more responsive and intuitive experience. Finally, the cross-platform functionality is a massive plus, enabling seamless online play against friends and competitors worldwide. The academy to create and share custom content is also a welcome addition.

The game runs surprisingly well on the Nintendo Switch, considering the detail level. While there are occasional minor frame rate dips during particularly intense moments, these are infrequent and don’t significantly detract from the overall gameplay experience. The graphics, though not cutting-edge, are impressive for a handheld title. The load times are reasonable, and the online multiplayer is generally smooth and lag-free. The controls are intuitive and easy to pick up, even for newcomers to cricket games. The AI opponents provide a good challenge, scaling in difficulty as your skills improve. The audio is well done, providing an energetic and authentic cricketing atmosphere.

Pros:

  • Immersive Ashes experience
  • High player and stadium detail
  • Engaging career mode
  • Improved fielding controls
  • Cross-platform multiplayer
  • Custom content creation and sharing

Cons:

  • Occasional minor frame rate drops
  • Graphics not quite cutting edge

Cricket 24 (Spidecric24) on Nintendo Switch is a fantastic cricket simulation, offering a surprisingly deep and enjoyable experience on a handheld console. While it’s not perfect, its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. The sheer amount of content, combined with the improved gameplay and cross-platform functionality, makes it a must-have for cricket fans and anyone looking for a compelling sports game on the go. I wholeheartedly recommend it.
