Godox V1Pro C Flash for Canon Review
For weeks, the Godox V1Pro C Flash for Canon has been my constant companion on various shoots – from dimly lit indoor portraits to bright outdoor events. This review summarizes my extensive experience with this speedlight, aiming to provide a comprehensive and unbiased assessment.
The V1Pro C boasts an impressive array of features. Its compatibility with Canon’s E-TTL/E-TTL II system is a significant advantage, offering seamless integration with Canon cameras. The 76Ws power output is ample for most shooting scenarios, and the 28-105mm auto zoom is incredibly convenient. The 2.4 GHz X wireless radio system is robust and reliable, ensuring consistent performance even in challenging environments. The inclusion of a built-in LED modeling lamp is a thoughtful addition, helpful for pre-visualization. The tiltable and rotatable head provides unmatched flexibility in lighting.
The magnetic modifiers (sold separately) are a game-changer, allowing quick and easy attachment of various light shaping tools. The 1.5-second recycle time is impressively fast, minimizing downtime between shots. HSS (High-Speed Sync) support is also a crucial feature for photographers working in bright sunlight.
The detachable sub-flash is ingenious, increasing lighting options and enabling creative setups.
In practice, the V1Pro C lived up to its promises. The E-TTL II metering proved accurate and consistent, requiring minimal manual adjustments. The flash’s power output was more than sufficient even in challenging lighting conditions. The wireless functionality performed flawlessly across a range of distances. The HSS capabilities enabled me to shoot with fast shutter speeds, even in bright daylight, preventing unwanted motion blur.
The LED modeling lamp proved extremely useful for pre-visualizing lighting setups, especially during portrait sessions. The intuitive controls made navigating the settings straightforward. The battery life was surprisingly long, easily lasting through several hours of shooting. The included USB-C cable offers convenient charging.
However, the magnetic modifiers, while convenient, can be a bit expensive, and some users might find the lack of a dedicated zoom button (as found on some competitor models) slightly less intuitive.
Pros:
- Powerful and reliable flash output
- Accurate E-TTL II metering
- Robust and reliable 2.4 GHz X wireless system
- Convenient auto zoom
- Fast recycle time
- HSS support
- Built-in LED modeling lamp
- Flexible head tilt and rotation
- Magnetic modifier compatibility
- Detachable sub-flash
Cons:
- Magnetic modifiers are a separate cost
- Lack of a dedicated zoom button might be less intuitive for some
The Godox V1Pro C is a fantastic speedlight that delivers exceptional performance and flexibility. While the cost of the magnetic modifiers is a consideration, the overall quality, reliability, and feature set make it a compelling option for Canon shooters. I highly recommend it to photographers who need a reliable, powerful, and versatile flash system.
