Godox X2T-C (MLYX00512) Review: Canon TTL Wireless Flash Trigger

For weeks, I’ve been putting the Godox X2T-C (MLYX00512) TTL Wireless Flash Trigger through its paces. This Canon-specific trigger boasts a compelling array of features, including Bluetooth app control, high-speed sync (HSS), and a redesigned interface. But does it live up to the hype? My extensive testing reveals both impressive strengths and areas needing attention.

The X2T-C packs a significant punch in terms of features. The built-in Bluetooth connectivity, allowing control via the GodoxPhoto app, is a game-changer for studio work. Adjusting flash power, modes, and modeling light remotely is incredibly convenient, especially when dealing with complex lighting setups. The inclusion of 1/8000s HSS is also a major plus, allowing for greater flexibility in bright outdoor environments. Other notable features include the intuitive LCD display, five separate group buttons, the new hotshoe locking mechanism, and the upgraded USB-C port.

In real-world use, the X2T-C performed admirably. The TTL autoflash function proved reliable and accurate in most situations. The HSS capability delivered consistent results, even in challenging lighting conditions. The response time was quick and the range impressive. The app control, while initially requiring some familiarization, functioned flawlessly once mastered. However, I did experience occasional minor connectivity hiccups with the Bluetooth, though these were infrequent.

The new AF assist light is a welcome addition, noticeably improving autofocus accuracy in low-light scenarios. The improved hotshoe locking mechanism feels substantially more secure compared to previous generations. The tactile feedback from the buttons is satisfying and the overall build quality feels robust.

Pros:

  • Bluetooth app control
  • Reliable TTL autoflash
  • 1/8000s HSS
  • Improved hotshoe locking
  • Intuitive interface
  • Robust build quality
  • Effective AF assist light

Cons:

  • Occasional Bluetooth connectivity issues
  • App could benefit from further refinement

The Godox X2T-C (MLYX00512) is a significant upgrade over its predecessors. The addition of Bluetooth app control, coupled with its reliable performance and versatile features, makes it a strong contender in the wireless flash trigger market. While minor connectivity hiccups exist, they don’t detract significantly from the overall positive experience. For serious photographers who value convenience and control, the X2T-C is a highly recommended investment.
