Redragon Anvil GS520 Review: Touch-Controlled RGB Desktop Speakers

The Redragon Anvil GS520 are a stylish set of 2.0 channel desktop speakers promising both impressive sound and eye-catching RGB lighting. After spending several weeks with them, connected to my PC for gaming and music listening, I’m ready to share my comprehensive review. The compact design and touch-sensitive controls are definitely attention-grabbing, but does the sound quality match the aesthetics?

The GS520 boasts several key features: The touch-sensitive RGB lighting is a standout, offering six distinct modes, from subtle pulsing to vibrant color cycling. The ability to easily switch off the lighting is a welcome addition for those who prefer a less flashy setup. Volume control is straightforward with dedicated up and down buttons. The brushed metal aesthetic gives the speakers a premium feel, and the compact footprint makes them ideal for smaller desktops. The inclusion of both a 3.5mm audio jack and a USB power connection ensures broad compatibility.

Sound quality is surprisingly good for speakers of this size. The audio is clear and crisp, with decent bass response for its size. While they won’t replace a dedicated 2.1 or 5.1 system for serious audiophiles, they’re more than capable for everyday listening and casual gaming. I used them extensively for gaming, watching videos, and listening to music, and they performed admirably in all scenarios. The volume output is impressive, providing enough sound to fill a medium-sized room without distortion at higher volumes. The RGB lighting, while a visual highlight, doesn’t interfere with the audio quality in any way.

I did notice a slight lack of depth in the lower frequencies; bass-heavy tracks felt a bit lacking compared to larger speakers, but this is expected given their compact size. The overall soundstage is well-balanced and pleasing to the ears, making them suitable for a variety of audio content.

Pros:

  • Stylish design and compact footprint.
  • Excellent RGB lighting with multiple modes and an off option.
  • Intuitive touch controls for volume and lighting.
  • Clear and crisp sound quality with decent bass for the size.
  • Broad compatibility thanks to USB power and 3.5mm audio/mic jacks.

Cons:

  • Bass response could be improved, lacking depth at times.
  • Cable length between speakers is relatively short.
  • Not ideal for audiophiles who need high-fidelity sound reproduction.

The Redragon Anvil GS520 provides a compelling blend of style, functionality, and surprisingly good sound quality. The touch-controlled RGB lighting is a fun addition, and the overall build quality is excellent. While they’re not perfect (the bass could be deeper), they’re an excellent option for anyone looking for stylish and capable desktop speakers. They’re particularly well-suited for casual gamers, music listeners, and those who appreciate a bit of visual flair on their desk. I would wholeheartedly recommend them.
