Rock Case iPad 9.7-inch (6th/5th Gen) Review – A1822/A1823/A1893/A1954
After weeks of using the Rock Case for my iPad 9.7-inch (2018 model, A1893), I’m ready to share my comprehensive review. This case promises a lot: protection, a built-in Apple Pencil holder, a clear back to show off my iPad’s design, and a convenient stand. But does it deliver on all fronts?
The Rock Case boasts a sleek design. The combination of a flexible TPU bumper and a hard PC back provides a good balance of protection and slimness. The clear back allows the iPad’s color to shine through, which is a definite plus for those who appreciate the aesthetic of their device. The integrated Apple Pencil holder is cleverly designed and keeps the Pencil securely in place without adding bulk. The tri-fold front cover offers multiple viewing and typing angles, although it’s not the most robust stand.
The auto wake/sleep function works flawlessly, instantly powering on and off the iPad when the cover is opened and closed. All the ports and buttons are easily accessible thanks to precise cutouts. A dedicated slot for storing a USB adapter is also a thoughtful addition.
In terms of protection, the Rock Case has performed admirably. It’s successfully shielded my iPad from minor drops and scratches. The TPU bumper absorbs impact well, and the hard PC back provides excellent resistance against surface scratches. While I haven’t subjected it to extreme drops, I feel confident in its ability to protect my iPad from everyday wear and tear.
The stand functionality is adequate but could be improved. While it holds the iPad securely at various angles, it’s not as sturdy as some other cases I’ve used. There’s a slight wobble at certain angles, which can be a bit distracting. The pencil holder, however, is exceptionally convenient and has been a real time-saver.
Pros
- Slim and lightweight design
- Excellent protection from scratches and minor impacts
- Clear back showcases the iPad’s design
- Convenient built-in Apple Pencil holder
- Functional auto wake/sleep feature
- Precise cutouts for easy access to ports and buttons
Cons
- Stand could be more stable
- Might not offer sufficient protection against significant drops
Overall, the Rock Case is a solid choice for those seeking a slim, protective case with a built-in Apple Pencil holder for their iPad 9.7-inch (6th/5th generation). The clear back is a nice touch, and the auto wake/sleep function is a welcome convenience. While the stand’s stability could be better, the overall package offers excellent value. I would recommend this case to anyone looking for a reliable and stylish solution for their iPad.
