ROG Rapture GT-BE98 (90IG08F0-MO9A0V) WiFi 7 Gaming Router Review: 25 Gbps Speed Beast?
The ROG Rapture GT-BE98 (90IG08F0-MO9A0V) is ASUS’s flagship WiFi 7 router, promising blazing-fast speeds and advanced features for gamers and power users. After several weeks of rigorous testing in a multi-device household, I’m ready to share my comprehensive review.
This router is packed with features. Beyond the headline-grabbing WiFi 7 standard, it boasts dual 10GbE ports offering incredible wired connectivity flexibility for high-bandwidth applications. The inclusion of quad 2.5GbE ports is a thoughtful touch, future-proofing your network for years to come. The 16 internal and external antennas ensured a strong signal throughout my relatively large home. Setup was surprisingly straightforward, thanks to ASUS’s intuitive router interface. VPN support (including WireGuard) is robust, a must for privacy-conscious users. The Mobile Game Mode promised lower latency in game which was evident, but I have to admit, this didn’t have a massive effect when compared to my previous router.
Testing the GT-BE98 involved numerous scenarios – from streaming 4K video on multiple devices concurrently to intense online gaming sessions. The claimed 25Gbps speed wasn’t consistently achieved under real-world conditions (as expected, achieving that maximum theoretical speed requires ideal conditions), but the performance was noticeably superior to my previous WiFi 6 router, especially in areas with signal interference. Speeds in excess of 5 Gbps were easily attainable on multiple devices, reducing latency noticeably and minimizing buffering during 4K streaming across multiple devices. I did experience some minor hiccups during periods of extremely high network traffic, but these were infrequent.
Pros:
- Blazing-fast WiFi 7 speeds (significantly faster than WiFi 6)
- Robust and versatile wired connectivity with 10GbE and 2.5GbE ports
- Strong signal coverage even in larger homes
- Easy setup and user-friendly interface
- Comprehensive VPN support
Cons:
- High price point
- Occasional minor hiccups under extreme network load
- Mobile Game Mode didn’t yield massively noticeable improvements
The ROG Rapture GT-BE98 is a premium router that delivers on its promise of exceptional speed and performance. While the price is substantial, the significant speed improvements and future-proof connectivity make it a worthwhile investment for serious gamers, streamers, and anyone demanding the best possible network performance. It’s not perfect (no router is!), but its strengths far outweigh its weaknesses. I highly recommend it for users needing top-tier networking capabilities.
