Performance
The soundbar’s performance is impressive. Dolby Atmos shines, especially in movies with extensive overhead effects. The up-firing speakers convincingly place sound above you, creating a truly three-dimensional soundscape. Q-Symphony works seamlessly with my Samsung TV, offering a noticeable improvement in overall soundstage width and clarity. Adaptive Sound proves effective in adjusting to different content types, ensuring consistent audio quality regardless of what I’m watching or listening to. While bass response is decent, it could benefit from a more powerful subwoofer for truly impactful low-end frequencies. Dialogue is crisp and clear even at lower volumes. However, the single HDMI port could be a limitation for users with multiple devices.
I tested the soundbar with various content including action movies, concerts, and podcasts. In action movies the sound effects were explosive and detailed. In concerts the sound was rich and full bodied, capturing the ambience of the venue very well. Finally, the clarity of voice and music from podcasts was excellent, and very easy to listen to for extended periods.
While the SpaceFit Sound feature is a welcome addition, its impact wasn’t as transformative as I expected. I didn’t notice a significant difference in sound quality after the calibration process. However the results varied depending on the content.
Pros & Cons
- Pros: Immersive Dolby Atmos sound, Q-Symphony integration, crisp dialogue, Adaptive Sound functionality, sleek design.
- Cons: Subwoofer could be more powerful, only one HDMI port, SpaceFit Sound impact less noticeable than advertised.
Final Verdict
The Samsung HW-Q700D/ZN is a solid soundbar offering a compelling combination of features and performance. While the subwoofer could use an upgrade and the additional HDMI ports would be useful, the immersive Dolby Atmos, Q-Symphony integration, and Adaptive Sound make it a strong contender in its price range. If you’re looking for an upgrade to your home theater audio and value immersive sound, this soundbar is a worthy consideration. I would personally recommend it to friends and family.
