TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender RE200 Review

Introduction

In this review, we put the TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender RE200 through its paces. We’ve spent several weeks using it in a typical home environment, testing its performance in various locations and under different conditions. The RE200 promises to expand Wi-Fi coverage with its dual-band capabilities, and we’ll see if it delivers on that promise.

Key Features

The RE200 boasts several key features, including dual-band operation (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz), compatibility with virtually any existing Wi-Fi router, and a relatively simple setup process. The inclusion of TP-Link Mesh Technology is a significant advantage, enabling seamless integration into a larger mesh network if you have compatible TP-Link routers. The compact size makes it unobtrusive, and the ability to simply plug it in to different locations for optimal coverage is a real convenience.

Performance and Testing

Setting up the RE200 was remarkably straightforward. The WPS button made connecting it to our existing router a breeze. We tested its performance in various areas of our home, including the furthest corners, where we usually experienced weak Wi-Fi signals. The RE200 significantly improved signal strength in these dead zones. We streamed HD videos, played online games, and performed large file transfers without noticeable lag or buffering. The dual-band capability provided a stable and fast connection, even with multiple devices connected simultaneously. In particularly challenging areas, with several walls and significant distance from the router, performance was still greatly improved, though speeds were naturally lower. However, the improvement was substantial enough to be practical.

One area where the RE200 exceeded our expectations was its ability to manage multiple devices. With multiple smartphones, laptops, and smart home devices connected, we never experienced any significant drop in speed or connectivity issues. This consistently strong performance is a testament to its dual-band technology and efficient signal management.

Power consumption was minimal, in line with the specified 3.5W, barely noticeable on our energy bill.

Final Verdict

The TP-Link AC750 Wi-Fi Range Extender RE200 is a solid performer and a great value for the money. Its ease of setup, reliable performance, and ability to handle multiple devices make it an excellent choice for extending your home Wi-Fi network. While it might not be the perfect solution for incredibly large or structurally challenging homes, it effectively eliminates dead zones and provides consistently strong Wi-Fi in most situations. I highly recommend the RE200 to anyone looking for a simple yet effective way to improve their home Wi-Fi coverage.
